I’m sorry to say that’ll I’ll not be able to attend the reunion this time, and I’ll really miss seeing all you guys. I’m currently in the middle of a rather intense training program and because of this, will be in Columbus , OH , during the reunion weekend. As before, you’re again doing an awesome job of organizing this reunion. And, too, I’ll really miss being able to play a few tunes with the “Radiants.” I’ll be looking forward to making it to the next, which I hope you’ll be planning sometime in the future. Everything is going well here in Pensacola , FL. Hope everyone is doing fine.

Unfortunately my wife and I cannot be part of the reunion because we will be in Europe. You are correct, per an earlier e-mail, that no date is perfect but having a 6-month notice will allow many of us to schedule the reunion around events where there is some flexibility.

I would, however, like to stay in touch with the group. In the email replies to this project, you've unearthed several of my old buddies and I am gradually becoming reacquainted with them. If you put together addresses or other info, I would certainly like to be copied.

Bill Lace In Memory for Patsy Ann Gardner Welch Since we have an "In Memory" section, shouldn't we include or even have a separate section in memory of one of the best Chi Phi's of the 60's, our housemother, Patsy Welch? I know we all have fond memories of her.

We are avid UT baseball fans and the NCAA regional tounament will be in Austin that weekend. I am truly sorry that I will again miss seeing all the guys, but don't see any choice. I am sure that the reunion will be a great success, and I hope that I will be able to make the next one. Sorry to see that Jerry Long is also gone. I didn't think we were actually getting that old, but too many of our friends aren't with us any longer and I would like to renew all of those friendships before we lose any more.
The website is a great way of keeping up with everyone.
Wish all the guys the best from me, and I hope you have a great time.

Just a quick note to let you know how things are going. My computer has been down and out for 10 days so no word from me. Ginny is doing well on her TARCEVA chemo and having only moderate side effects. We are just praying for its response to her particular problem and continue to covet your prayers also. We were blessed to have all of our family here for the Memorial weekend and they will all be returning the end of July for our family summer get together. We are so grateful for the care and concern from her physicians and so many many friends. We feel truly blessed. Last weekend while cleaning out the house for some major remodeling we are
doing, I ran across two copies of Waltzing Matilda that we did for the singing
contest in 1960, I believe. This is on a 45 RPM record with Bells of St. Mary
on the flip side by Kappa Alpha Theta, winner of the sorority division. If I
had a method of reproducing it on the computer, I would make CD copies for
anyone who is interested, or send one of the copies to a brother who has that
ability. It is probably pretty scratchy, but someone might be interested.

Dear Class Mates,
Something funny. I went to a Memorial Service this afternoon for a lady that is older than me. Yes, there are some people older than me! I saw in the bulletin they were going to play "On the Wings of a Dove." My mind went to Chi Phi parties and singing that song over and over. Remember "On the wings of a snow white dove, he sends his pure white love. He sends down his love on the wings of a dove." See I remember the words after 50 years. I think we sang it in not such a churchy way. I think it was rauchy.
I did not get much out of the service because I was thinking of you all.
Yes, it is a hymn really and this time was sung with many verses. It was really pretty.
But I like the way Nu Chapter at Chi Phi sang it.
I do ask for God to send down his love for all of us.
And maybe forgive us for our rauchy ways in the past?

Maurice Angly Jr., the first Republican state legislator elected to represent the Travis County area since Reconstruction and a champion of government transparency, died Monday in Anchorage, Alaska, his children said. He was 71 .
Angly, a Houston native, served five years as a state representative from Travis and Burnet counties . He won a special election for the seat in 1967 , and news reports say he expressed hope at the time that Texas, then overwhelmingly Democratic-leaning, could become a two-party state where Republicans might also be competitive.
Angly's daughter, Katherine James, said he remained active in politics throughout his life, serving as a delegate to the 1988 Republican National Convention. He also assisted with President George H.W. Bush's campaign, she said.
"To me, he was born to be a politician," said James, 47 , who grew up in Central Austin . "He had that magnetic personality. He was vivacious, always the center of attention and the life of the party."
In office, Angly was a member of the "Dirty 30," a bipartisan cadre of representatives who pushed for reform in the statehouse and who were instrumental in ousting Speaker Gus Mutscher , who would later be indicted for his role in a stock fraud incident that shook the state, known as the Sharpstown State Bank scandal .
In 1972 , Angly made an unsuccessful run for state treasurer against long-time incumbent Jesse James , a Democrat. Angly also lost a state senate race to U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, the Democrat who now represents Austin in Washington, D.C. Both times, Angly ran on platforms of government transparency and fiscal responsibility, news reports at the time showed.
Angly , who practiced law for several years in Austin, studied government at the University of Texas and also attended the UT School of Law with his then-wife, Surrenden Hill Angly , now 70.
Angly moved to Alaska about 10 years ago to partially retire and pursue fishing, hunting and gardening, his daughter said. Angly also worked at a market research firm, Hellenthal & Associates , in Anchorage , managing callers who conducted the research.
"Maurice had a wonderful sense of humor and, of course, that wonderful Texas accent," said Jean Hellenthal , who worked with Angly at Hellenthal, her husband's firm. "He had a lot of stories he could tell."
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Texas State Cemetery.
Angly is survived by his children James , Maurice "Trey" Angly III , Surrenden Angly Gillespie and Etienne Kuldell Angly and by nine grandchildren, family members said.

Bob Simpson I am so sorry to hear about Maurice Angly's death. He was in my pledge class and one of my dearest friends. I have often wondered about him as we lost contact over the years. I was in Anchorage a couple of years ago and would have looked him up if I had known he was there. We will miss him.
