I got my journalism degree in '70 and worked in Austin until 1987, when I took a job here in Madison, WI. I came here as General Manager and I'm now Chairman and Publisher. It's a tough industry these days, but we've still got a good business -- just not as good as before. Belle (a Mississippi girl) and I have two sons, 28 and 26 working in Austin and Kerrville, respectively. My younger brothers both stayed in Austin (David's the Chi Phi). I get to Austin about a half dozen times a year, in four- to ten-day chunks, mostly in the Fall, as we kept our UT season tickets. We've had a time-share at Barton Creek since 2000 and we are toying with buying a place in the next year or so as we ramp up the percentage of time we spend in Austin. Madison will be our base (especially in the Summer) but we expect to split our time pretty evenly within three or four years. I expect to keep some of my duties at the newspapers for many more years.
